Research Findings Have Pinpointed The Duration of Physical Activity that Could Potentially Enhance Longevity

Regular physical activity, such as exercise, plays a vital role in enhancing overall health and extending lifespan. A recent study published in Preventive Medicine explored the relationship between physical activity and longevity. The results indicated that maintaining elevated levels of physical activity might extend an individual's lifespan by up to nine years.

Conducted by researchers from Brigham Young University in the United States, the study emphasized that individuals who engage in regular physical activities experience a slower rate of cellular aging.

“We all know people who look younger than their actual age. The more physically active we are, the less biological aging occurs in our bodies,” said study author Larry Tucker quoted from the Times of India, Monday (03/10/2025).

Larry delved into the connection between physical activity and telomere length. Telomeres, the nucleotide caps at the ends of chromosomes, play a significant role in the aging process.

Larry pointed out that individuals with inactive lifestyles tend to have the shortest telomeres. Moreover, there was no notable variation in telomere length between individuals with low or moderate physical activity and those leading sedentary lives. This underscores the crucial role of intense physical activity in influencing cellular aging.

What is the Optimal Length of Physical Exercise?

Have you ever wondered about the ideal duration of physical activity to combat cellular aging?

For women aiming to be highly active, the recommendation is to engage in a 30-minute jog each day, five days a week. On the other hand, men are advised to jog for 40 minutes daily, five times a week.

Alternatively, achieving this goal is also possible by running for 30 to 40 minutes per day, five days a week.

Larry emphasized, "If you truly want to witness a significant impact on slowing down biological aging, sporadic workouts won't suffice. Consistent high-intensity exercise is key."
